How to Upload Videos to Your LMS Curriculum – Normal, Basic DRM & Secured DRM Explained

How to upload a video to the curriculum?

Uploading a video helps educators explain their lessons more clearly and makes learning easier for learners. Videos can show ideas visually, making tough topics simpler and more interesting. There are different types of videos you can upload, each offering different levels of access and security.

A normal video is open and can be watched by anyone, making it easy to share with all learners. A basic DRM video, on the other hand, uses a system to control who can watch it, requiring a special license for playback. For even more security, a Secured DRM video uses encryption and authentication to ensure only authorized people can view it.

Info

In this documentation, we will guide you on how you can upload a video so your learners can benefit from it while understanding the best options for access and security.

Let’s get started πŸš€

Prerequisites

Notes

Before proceeding, please make sure to read the β€œHow to Add Curriculum?” document. It provides the necessary steps for setting up your course structure, which is required before adding the video.

WarningNote: To know more about DRM (Digital Rights Management), refer to this doc - Understanding Digital Rights Management (DRM)

Adding a Normal Video

Adding a regular video to the curriculum helps learners learn better by showing clear and interesting visuals. Videos make difficult topics easier to understand and keep learners focused. This way, lessons become more fun and easier to remember.

Alert

Carefully follow the instructions below to learn how you can efficiently add a normal video to the curriculum.

Step 1: After adding curriculum to your course in the β€œCourse” section, click the β€œ+ Add Material” button and select the β€œVideo” icon. Then click "Continue", choose the "Normal DRM" format, fill in the details, and click β€œAdd Material”.

Step 2: Fill in all the fields and click the "Add Material" button. While uploading a video, you'll need to fill in important details as illustrated in the table below.

Adding Basic DRM Video

Basic DRM (Digital Rights Management) Video uses lightweight protection to prevent unauthorized downloads or sharing, but it offers Level 3 security, meaning it can be bypassed by learners using inspection tools. The DRM processing typically takes 1-2 hours while still providing smooth playback for authorized users.

Step 1: After adding curriculum to your course in the β€œCourse” section, click the "+ Add Material" button and select the "Video" icon.

Adding Secured DRM Video

A secure video uses encryption and authentication to ensure that only authorized people can watch it. This helps protect sensitive or important content from unauthorized access. It’s a good choice when you need to keep your video safe. The Secured DRM processing typically takes 24-48 hours while still providing smooth playback for authorized users.

Alert

Carefully follow the instructions below to learn how you can efficiently add a secured DRM video to the curriculum.

Step 1: After adding curriculum to your course in the β€œCourse” section, click the β€œ+ Add Material” button and select the β€œVideo” icon.

Then click β€œContinue”, choose the β€œSecured DRM” format, fill in the details, and click on the β€œAdd Material” button.

Step 2: Fill in all the fields and click the "Add Material" button. While uploading a video, you'll need to fill in important details as illustrated in the table below.

Field Name

Mandatory

Step 3: Once you've added a Secured DRM Video to your curriculum, it usually takes 24-48 hours for the video to be processed and transcoded

You can manage it anytime using the three-dot menu, which provides options to preview, edit details, publish/unpublish, enable a free preview, set prerequisites, download, or delete the video.

Note: The Secured DRM videos are only playable on the Desktop in Edge and Safari Browsers and are not playable in mobile browsers.

For mobile, it is recommended to access the content through the Mobile Applications.

This video uses Level 1 DRM, which provides strong protection by encrypting the content at multiple backend stages. Processing can take up to 48 hours due to creating multiple resolutions (360p, 480p, 720p) for different devices, including mobile apps, mobile browsers, and web browsers. Storage limits depend on your subscription plan, with add-ons available for additional capacity. Watermarking is also applied. Because of Level 1 DRM, users cannot take screenshots, record screens, or share their screens while viewing the video.
